Since social media is essentially taking over our lives and with Instagram being considered one of the favorite social media, engaging in photography has become commonplace. Everyone now captures moments of their everyday life, from landscapes, food and group photos to selfies! Unfortunately, if you don't get the "right" angle, even if you have the latest iPhone or a top-of-the-line Android phone the photo can turn out to be mediocre.
To avoid this, follow these easy tips for the best selfie.
Proper lighting
Whether you're photographing indoors or outdoors, stay away from harsh lighting, such as bright white kitchen lights or direct sunlight. Make sure there is enough light, otherwise your photos may come out blurry and no photo editing later will be able to fix it.
Now, the best time of day to take pictures outside is when the sun is lower in the sky, before sunrise and right after sunset.
Remember that the more "correct" the lighting, the better your photo will turn out. And do not forget that the best source of light is none other than the sun!
Find your "good" profile
Left profile or right? Look in the mirror and your camera and you will surely see that one of the two profiles flatters you the most.
Look towards the camera – upwards
As you do this, raise your eyebrows slightly to make your eyes look bigger. Still, think of something that really makes you smile, that will create the feeling of genuine happiness and make your face shine when you take your photo.
Relax your features
Relax your mouth and exhale, drawing air through your lips. Whether you choose to keep your mouth loosely open or fully closed in your selfie, blowing air from your lips before taking the photo, it prevents your mouth from looking clenched.
Try Portrait mode
Most front cameras have portrait mode. It blurs the background and focuses on the main subject, providing a professional-looking photo. Make changes to settings, experiment, and see how your selfie comes out with portrait mode.
Face and body positioning
When you want to take a full-length photo to look taller, place the camera low so that the lens shoots you from the bottom up. In this way, your legs will appear longer. A clever trick is to place one foot a little ahead of the other. Do not stand like a statue, bend your waist and turn slightly to the side. Give a sense of movement to your photo.
Using a timer
You may take blurry photos when you have shaky hands or if you take selfies by pressing the shutter or volume button. Use your phone's selfie camera timer and take the perfect selfie. Look for the timer option in your phone's camera app and choose between 2s, 3s, 5s, or 10s timers.
Avoid using multiple filters
It is advisable to avoid over-editing and too many filters as many of them will alter the result instead of improving it.
Practicing creates the perfect selfie!
Knowledge is power, and now that you know how to take the perfect selfie, experiment. The more photos you take, the better the result will be and effortlessly!
Do not forget to be yourself, to do what you feel and what expresses you the most. This will be seen even through a simple photo.
